Do you need to validate an A2, B1, or B2 level in French to obtain a residence permit, a 10-year residence card, or French citizenship?
The TCF Integration, Residence, and Nationality (TCF IRN) is an official French language test developed by France Éducation International. It is intended for foreign nationals over the age of 16 who wish to certify their level of French as part of the process of integration, residence, or acquisition of French nationality.
In accordance with the provisions set out in Decree No. 2016-1456 of October 28, 2016, and the Order of February 21, 2018, as well as recent regulatory changes relating to proficiency in French, the TCF IRN assesses oral and written comprehension and expression skills according to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). It certifies levels A2, B1, or B2, depending on the procedure concerned.
The TCF IRN can also be used by individuals who need to certify a B1 level in French for certain professional obligations or procedures, particularly in sectors where proficiency in French is required.
The results of the TCF IRN are valid for 2 years.
